 Information
The Wietingsmoor is a varied upland moor landscape in Lower Saxony and part of the Diepholzer moorland-valley. This unique landscape has gone through extensive changes, caused among other things by peat dismantling, agriculture and cultivation, but still in part it is well kept and/or restored. The determining factors for its size were the late settlement of the area (around approximately 1900) as well as various efforts (or endeavours) after the Second World War.
This original scenic landscape is interesting for its flora and fauna, which presents an extensive list of rare species in Germany.

In particular the brochure "Discover nature at Neustädter Moor" (south of Wieting moor, text in german) gives a detailed overview to the topic. Nach den vielfältigsten Begegnungen mit dieser Landschaft zu allen Tages- und Jahreszeiten wäre es trotzdem anmaßend, zu behaupten, sie zu kennen. Sie gibt ihr wahres Gesicht nicht preis. Hier glänzt ein Tümpel, dort ist einer verschwunden; wo jetzt Birken grünen, starren im nächsten Sommer kahle Stümpfe; wo heute ein begehbarer Pfad ist, lauern morgen unergründliche Tiefen. Im Moor beginnt der Frühling spät, doch lange währt der Herbst. Die Einsamkeit endet nie, und jedes Glücksgefühl enthält den Wermutstropfen der Beängstigung. Margret Buerschaper
